The inaugural edition of CURRENT FESTIVAL was fantastic. Unique venue, unique talent and a nice audience!
Thank you for everyone who came and supported the festival in some way,
and a special thank you to all the volunteers and participants.
Please stay tuned for photos/videos/audio from this year’s event, and announcements over the next few months!
Current has some exciting things in store.
Following up on themes established in the first concert, Current Festival’s second concert entitled “On the Wire” features performing artists who blur the lines between digital and analog and take us deeper into synthetic soundscapes and manipulated recording—embracing all manner of instrument, voice and machine and tapping inherent sound found within.
Current Festival’s first concert entitled “6 Strings with Wings” will showcase artists who embrace familiar and strange alike as they wield traditional instruments and augment their sound with ethereal processing and play technique.
In case you’ve been in the dark, The CURRENT Music and Art Festival 2011 Inaugural edition kicks off tomorrow with a night of film viewing followed by two incredible concerts later in the week and finishing with a “Build Your Own Synth” workshop on the weekend.
While tickets may be available at the door, Now is your last chance to buy tickets online. For more info + to buy tickets, click here.

Jay Morritt - CURRENT 2011
Listen to an excerpt of a piece by Current Festival 2011 performer and British Columbia resident Jay Morritt entitled “Trains of Winnipeg”:

Some artists performing during this night have been known to tinker and create their own instruments. Ruin, for example, hand builds many of the electronic instruments he performs with. He will also be hosting the “Build Your Own Synth” workshop on the 13th where persons can build one of their own.
Direwires - CURRENT 2011
Listen to/download a piece entitled “Shallows” by Sarnia’s Direwires, Current Festival 2011 performer and long-time composer/producer.
Participants will be guided through assembly of a special synthesizer kit made especially for this workshop. The synthesizer is a simple light controlled tone source, similar in sound to the iconic Theremin. The circuit is highly versatile and interested parties can be instructed on modifications to the circuit to enhance its abilities. All components are included in the cost of the kit, however if you have a soldering iron, please feel free to bring it. When the project is complete participants will have a functioning sound maker that they can take home with them.
